Vista do Mar is the room that decides the holiday. Open the two French doors on the south wall and the Atlantic unrolls in a clean 180-degree arc — first the long front patio of Casa Protea, then a stretch of grass, then open ocean all the way to the horizon. Inside, the palette runs petrol blue and gold: a gold sofa anchoring the lounging area, a gold-and-petrol striped armchair beside it, an antique English desk under the window, a curio cabinet holding small things worth looking at twice. The bed is a 180 × 200 cm European King — what Americans call a queen — set on a memory foam mattress and dressed in linen, with a large en-suite bath off the room. It's the largest of the three Casa Protea suites by a real margin, and the only one with two French doors opening to the sea.
Breakfast is yours to take or skip — you'll choose at booking. When you take it, you'll find it set in the manor's dining room or out on the back garden patio among the hydrangea beds, the daisies, the Azorean lemon trees, and the grass that goes on long enough to set out a yoga mat. Bread still warm. Fruit from the kitchen garden. Eggs from our own hens. Good coffee. Dinner has its own rhythm here. Some nights the dining room is set for our staying guests — about three a week — for dinner from our kitchen. Other nights it belongs to a cooking class, where participants sit down to the meal they spent the afternoon preparing, or to a Regenerative Farm Tour group ending the walk at a vegetarian table. Guests can join either the cooking class or the Regenerative Farm Tour by booking the experience alongside the stay. The wellness offerings — sauna, jacuzzi, cold plunge — wait in the outdoor spa garden just outside your east-facing window, by appointment, alongside massage, bodywork, yoga, and movement, all of it just for our guests.
The two views work on different rhythms. South, through the French doors, the Atlantic does the heavy lifting — a 180-degree horizon line that holds the light for hours and changes the color of everything as the weather moves across it. East, through the side window, the spa garden goes about its quieter business below. Together they give you the rare suite that earns its own day — somewhere you'd happily stay through breakfast, through lunch, through an afternoon at the desk and an evening on the sofa, before the ocean asks you back outside. Vista do Mar sleeps two, with a private en-suite bath and full run of the manor's gardens, patios, and grounds. It's the room for travelers who came to São Miguel for the Atlantic — and want to sleep close to it without giving up a working farm, a designed interior, and the space to actually live for a week. For smaller manor suites with their own character, see Flores or Pato Real. For a fully self-contained villa for two, see Casa Madeira Bungalow.
