Quinta do Café earns its name twice over. Café is Portuguese for "coffee," and the bungalow is built beside our coffee farm. Coffee is also the color of the wood throughout the bungalow. It has wood floors, wood ceiling, wood kitchen cabinets, set against dark mottled concrete accents and walls of glass on all four sides. Stand in the living room and the bungalow seems to dissolve outward: the lawns, the gardens, the ocean to the south, and the farm fields beyond all come inside at once. It's an architect's small house, more than a hotel suite — a complete one-bedroom, one-bath home built for two, sitting on the east side of Casa Protea with the spa garden in between.
The interiors carry a real point of view. The living room centers on a Chesterfield sofa that earns its reputation the first time you sit down. The dining area sets four around a glass table on green velvet chairs, with a designed cargo cabinet doubling as the TV stand against a dark grey mottled concrete wall — the most architectural moment in the bungalow. The bedroom holds a 180 × 200 cm European King — what Americans call a queen — set on a memory foam mattress and dressed in linen. The bathroom is finished in stone with a large walk-in shower, no tub. The kitchen is full, if compact — perfectly scaled for two people who want to cook a few meals during their stay and let our kitchen handle the rest.
Outside, Quinta do Café gives you two decks to choose from. The covered deck has a barbecue, a sofa, chairs, and a table — the room you live on when the day calls for shade or shelter. The sun deck is wide open to the sky, the kind you stretch out on and lose an afternoon. Both decks face the ocean. So does the living room. The dining area looks east into the spa garden — close enough that the wellness offerings (sauna, jacuzzi, cold plunge) are a few steps away by appointment, alongside massage, bodywork, yoga, and movement, all of it just for our guests. Breakfast is yours to take or skip — you'll choose at booking. When you take it, you'll find it served in the Casa Protea dining room or out on the back garden patio there, a short walk across the spa garden. Dinner is offered to our staying guests about three nights a week in the manor dining room. On the other nights the room belongs to a cooking class — participants sitting down to the meal they spent the afternoon preparing — or to a Regenerative Farm Tour group ending the walk at a vegetarian table. Guests can join either the cooking class or the Regenerative Farm Tour by booking the experience alongside the stay.
Quinta do Café sleeps two in a fully self-contained bungalow — your own front door, your own kitchen, your own decks, your own quiet. It's the choice for couples who want the privacy and proportions of a villa without scaling up to a multi-bedroom house: honeymooners, anniversary travelers, writers, anyone planning a slow week where the room is part of the trip. For a manor suite at the same guest count, see Flores, Pato Real, or Vista do Mar. For a larger gathering house, see Casa Protea da Cima.
